MAX AND THE MIX UP
I was commissioned by an author to illustrate her children’s book about a group of animal friends. The illustrations were completed on my iPad, using the Procreate app.
During this project, I learned a great deal about the process! From rough layout sketches to the finalized pages, my goal was to utilize color and texture cohesively the create a simple, yet visually intriguing world filled with endearing characters.

CHARACTER DESIGN
I began the character design for Max the Moose with silhouette studies and sketches in variety of styles. I was aiming for a whimsical illustration style based in realism, so I explored that spectrum through many moose sketches! As I focused in on the final character design, I kept the color palette and texture cohesive.

SPREAD LAYOUTS
My experience in typography and design fundamentals, like hierarchy and balance, gave me a familiar head start while laying out the page spreads. I took the colors, setting, characters, and type into account while designing the setting on each page. I also used my theater knowledge of stage layout to visually craft the scenes to communicate the story clearly.
